President John Dramani Mahama has appointed former Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, as the new Board Chair of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO).

The appointment, which was confirmed on Monday, signals a renewed drive by the Mahama administration to strengthen the fight against financial and organized crime in Ghana.

Mr. Domelevo, widely respected for his uncompromising stance on accountability and transparency during his tenure as Auditor-General, is expected to bring his wealth of experience and integrity to EOCO’s leadership. His time at the Audit Service was marked by bold interventions in public financial management, where he consistently held state institutions accountable and championed the prudent use of public funds.

In his new role, Domelevo will lead the EOCO board in providing strategic direction to the institution, ensuring that it effectively investigates and prosecutes cases of economic crime, corruption, money laundering, and other forms of organized crime that threaten Ghana’s financial stability and governance systems.

President Mahama, in announcing the appointment, expressed confidence in Domelevo’s capacity to strengthen EOCO’s operations, noting that his track record of professionalism and courage aligns with the government’s renewed commitment to fighting corruption.

Mr. Domelevo, on his part, is yet to officially respond to the appointment, but close associates say he remains dedicated to the cause of promoting good governance, accountability, and justice in Ghana.

This move has already generated widespread public interest, with many civil society organizations and anti-corruption advocates welcoming the decision as a step in the right direction.
