Minister of roads and highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta lead a technical team from the Ghana Highway Authority and department of federal roads to the Upper West region to access the extent of damage caused to the road infrastructure after flash floods destroyed a major part of the road network.
The devastation has submerged farm lands and destroyed several road networks including the only international highway linking Ghana to Burkina Faso through the Upper West Region.
The regional minister, Hafiz Bin salib said it will take massive intervention from Government to fix the roads
“We went round and you saw the extent of damage. No political district in the Upper West Region has been spared. What has happened has taken the Upper West backwards and it will need massive intervention for us to get back to where we were about 3 or 4 days ago but I can assure you that government will do everything within its power to work on the roads so that we get good roads in the Upper West.
Minister of roads and Highways, Kwesi Amoako Atta, assured Ghanaians especially the people of the Upper West region that the Government is going to make resources available to ensure the reconstruction of the roads.
Speaking to the media he said, “Everybody should know that what has been destroyed is not beyond its human solution and capability and the government is behind every part of this country including this great region.”
“There has been massive destruction but the affected roads are going to be fixed in a record time. The government is going to mobilize all available resources to fix what has gone wrong.”
