Traders within the Sekondi market have taken a proactive step to avert fire outbreaks.

The measures include switching off all sources of ignition and cooking fires before the five o’clock reviewed time. The decision follows a series of devastating fires in markets across the country.

Nana Krah, the Queen Mother of Sekondi Market, who confirmed this to the GNA, said the decision also aligned with the President’s directives. The Fire Service and other security personnel are to conduct thorough patrols and prevent any potential incidents of fires.

She revealed that currently officials with the Ghana Fire Service were embarking on a surveillance exercise, detecting faulty wiring at the various stores. Nana Krah urged all traders to strictly adhere to the new guidelines to ensure the safety and security of the market.
