Residents of Sekondi-Takoradi on Easter Monday thronged the Vienna and Alan beaches to celebrate the festive period with families, friends and loved ones.

Bars, restaurants and pubs along these enclaves were crowded with holiday makers, with others swimming and dancing to contemporary Ghanaian music.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the area, it observed that security personnel were also present at the beach to provide protection and ensure safety for the revellers, who had come to have a great time with their families.

Mr Kofi Amuzu, a holidaymaker, who had come with his two children told the GNA that it was a day to cool off with his family, while spending some good time together.

He said: “Work and other things do not permit me to spend a time like this with my children, so on a day like this, I thought it was in order that we come here to have fun”.

He commended the operators of the beaches for ensuring that there were security personnel around to help guarantee the safety of the holidaymakers.

Mrs Elizabeth Gyamfua, another holidaymaker, said visiting the beach on Easter Mondays was an annual ritual for fun time with her family.

Meanwhile, hawkers also took advantage of the occasion to cash in by selling food, refreshments, and other items.
