A horrific accident on the Offinso–Abofuor Highway in the Ashanti Region has claimed the lives of seven people, leaving about a dozen others in critical condition.

The crash occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, January 7, 2025, between the Samproso and Awisam communities near Offinso.

According to an eyewitness, Kwadwo Obeng Mireku, who spoke to Adom News, a commercial bus with registration number GT 5509-20, travelling from Techiman to Kumasi, collided head-on with a trailer loaded with cement, registration GN 5326-22.

He explained that the trailer, which was coming from a cement factory in Samproso, had stalled on the road after developing engine trouble. The oncoming bus, reportedly travelling at high speed, crashed into it.

Six people died instantly at the scene, while several others sustained critical injuries. One additional victim later died at the hospital, bringing the death toll to seven.

The injured and the deceased were transported to St. Patrick Hospital at Offinso Maase. Police personnel have since visited the scene to clear the road and have launched investigations into the cause of the accident.
