Some youth in Ashaiman, Lebanon, Zone Five, have emphasised the need to maintain clean and well-groomed beards.

They said maintaining a clean and well-shaped beard was essential for personal hygiene, appearance, and overall health. They said beards could trap dirt, food particles, and bacteria, which might lead to skin irritation, bad odour, and infections if not properly cleaned.

According to them, regular washing with a mild cleanser and conditioning helps keep the beard free from buildup while maintaining healthy skin underneath the beard by reducing ingrown hairs, dandruff, and dryness.

Speaking with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in a random survey, some mentioned that they keep beards to prevent shaving bumps. They said they use organic oils, hair growth soaps, serums, and creams to enhance the beard’s texture and shine.

Mr. Sena Dei, a trader who has been keeping beards for over two years, said he uses a natural product for the growth of the hair.  He said for him, maintaining a short, neatly shaped beard was his priority as it reflects his sense of self-care and confidence and urged the youth to trim and wash their beards frequently.

Mr. Ibrahim Dauda, a businessman, said he uses soap and serum for the growth, nourishment, and overall care of his beard, adding that, he trims his beard every month to keep it in shape.

He said proper maintenance of a beard prevented bumps, saying, “I believe keeping my beard clean and well-shaped reflects my personality and helps me maintain a youthful look.” Mr. Ben Kwaku Arhin, a student, said he keeps his beard because that was what is trending among his friends.
