A student, Regan Kwesi Egbe Addo, also known as Morgan Addo, has been brought before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly using a GCB Bank ATM card scam to withdraw a total of GH¢24,849 from two customers’ accounts. He is facing two separate charges of stealing and has pleaded not guilty to both.

In the first case, the prosecution told the court that on September 17, 2025, Addo pretended to be a staff member of GCB Bank at the Ministries ATM in Accra. He allegedly convinced a customer to follow him to the Société Générale Ghana Bank Premier Towers branch. Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder said the accused stood close to the complainant while he entered his PIN and later asked to clean the ATM card chip, during which he is said to have secretly exchanged the card.

According to the prosecution, Addo later withdrew GH¢14,949 from the complainant’s account at different locations in Accra, including the Kempinski Hotel and the Airport City Shell Fuel Station, without the customer’s knowledge or consent. Police investigations included reviewing CCTV footage from GCB Bank to trace the movements of both the complainant and the accused.

In the second case, Addo is accused of using the same method to steal GH¢9,900 from the account of a female GCB Bank customer who works at the Ministry of Fisheries on December 23, 2025, around 4:40 pm. The prosecution said the complainant reported the matter to the police after learning that Addo had been arrested and placed on a wanted list for similar ATM card thefts within the Accra Central Division.

The court has granted Addo bail and ordered him to appear, with his lawyer if any, for a case management conference on March 11, 2026. The prosecution has also been directed to file its witness statements and disclosures.
