The Vice-Chancellor of the Sunyani Technical University, Ing. Professor Kwadwo Adinkrah-Appiah has indicated that the University is introducing four new programs in the coming year.

The second session of the congregation would be held in March 2021 for HND and non-tertiary students.

The graduation ceremony was under the theme: “Technical and Vocational Education and Training: The Key to Sustainable job creation in Ghana.”

Ing. Professor Adinkrah-Appiah noted that the institution has obtained accreditation to start seven new programmes and also has the needed infrastructure to accommodate.

“The University has obtained accreditation to run seven new 4-year Bachelor of Technology programmes which will be rolled out in January 2021. The programmes include; Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Hospitality and Tourism Management, General Agriculture and Fashion Design Technology.”

The institution has also received clearance for the introduction of five other 4-year BTech programmes.

He noted that the university is ready to absorb fresh students, “The University is thus, now ready to absorb students into these new 4-year direct programmes. I, therefore, urge qualified applicants from the Free SHS flagship program and others, including international applicants, to enrol at the Sunyani Technical University.”

Professor Adinkrah-Appiah commended government for placing the staff of technical University on the Public University Structure.

He noted that the placing of the staff on the new salary structure would reduce the technical universities losing its staff to other traditional Universities.

“We believe that this will help end the acute attrition rate of our staff towards other traditional Universities in the country. We urged government to complete the process by ensuring that there are no differentials as far as salaries are concerned, between the Technical University staff and the Traditional University staff of similar status.”

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Legon Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, who was the special guest at the graduation ceremony, noted that the role of technical and vocational education in the socio-economic development of Ghana cannot be underestimated.

“If we are to adequately fill the middle to high-level manpower that this nation needs to make the needed progress, then we have to upscale our technical and vocational skills development.”
