Traffic on the Apam Junction–Winneba stretch of the highway has been temporarily halted following an accident involving a fuel tanker at Ekumfi Essarkyir Junction.

The tanker reportedly lost control and overturned, blocking a section of the road.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service Apam Fire Station indicated that part of the fuel cargo spilled onto the highway, raising fears of a possible explosion.

Adom News reporter Kofi Adjei, who visited the scene, reported that as a precautionary measure, officers from the Fire Service and the Ghana Police Service have cordoned off the area and suspended vehicular movement.

Emergency response teams are currently working to transfer the remaining fuel into another tanker to minimise the risk.

Authorities have urged motorists to use alternative routes while efforts continue to clear the scene and restore normal traffic flow.
