Madam Abigail Atinpoka, the Bono Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) confirmed the dead, saying the bodies including five males and three females had since been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital mortuary.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), she said the crash involved a Toyota Corolla Taxicab with registration number AS 4819-17 and a private vehicle with registration number GN 5753-12.

She said the crash reportedly happened when the driver of the private vehicle carrying the mourners and traveling from Dormaa-Ahenkro to Sunyani lost control, crossing to the lane of the taxicab which was also coming from the opposite direction.

Mad Atinpoka said the victims were rushed to the Berekum Holy Family and Sunyani Teaching Hospitals, saying that the only two survivors were also in critical condition.
