Professor Elijah Yendaw, a Professor at the Faculty of Public Policy and Governance at the SDD University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) made the commendation, on Thursday Dr. Pelpuo, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Wa Central Constituency, had been nominated as the Minister-designate for Labour, Jobs, and Employment while Mr Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), had been appointed as the Upper West Regional Minister-designate.

Prof. Yendaw, the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Public Policy and Governance at the SDD-UBIDS, with specialization in Migration, Security, and International Relations, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa on Wednesday. That followed the announcement of Dr. Pelpuo and Mr Puoziung’s nominations alongside other ministerial appointments by President Mahama on Tuesday, January 21, 2025. The Professor also thanked the President for appointing ACP Abdul-Osman Razak, a son of the region, as the National Security Coordinator.

Prof. Yendaw, who doubled as the Director of the Centre for Migration, Security and International Relations at the University, indicated that appointing sons and daughters of the Upper West Region to serve in his government was worthy of commendation. “Mr President, your choice of Dr. Hassan Rashid Pelpuo to head the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment is commendable and the people of the Upper West Region will forever be grateful to you. “The people of the region are also grateful to you for naming our next Regional Minister, Mr Charles Lwanga Puozuing.

I am confident that they will live up to expectations to support you deliver the best of governance to Ghanaians,” Prof. Yendaw stated. While commending the President for the appointments made so far, Prof. Yendaw, also the Upper West Regional Coordinator of the Progressive Intellectuals (PI), appealed to him to consider appointments from the professional and technical fields in his government.

He said: “The SDD-UBIDS’ branch of the Progressive Intellectuals is endowed with competent human resources who can serve in key technical areas in your government to support you (the President) to fix the country.” Prof. Yendaw also thanked the leadership of the NDC in the region for its “credible performance” in the just-ended election, which saw the party return to power.

He, however, called on them to remain united and do everything possible to rally the required human resources from the region to play crucial roles in government to make the north and Ghana a better place for all. Progressive Intellectuals is a National Democratic Congress (NDC)-affiliated group of University Professors and Administrators who were instrumental in the 2024 election campaign to bring President John Mahama and the NDC back to power.
