The Volta Regional Vetting Committee for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), has successfully vetted 237 aspirants out of the 279 applicants seeking positions across various Assemblies in the region.

The vetted aspirants, competing for just 18 available slots, included 30 women and 207 men. Announcing the conclusion of the vetting process on Tuesday, January 28, in Ho, Mr. Egypt Kudoto, the Chairman of the Vetting Committee and Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Volta Region, stated that the Committee’s next step was to shortlist three candidates from each Municipality and District.

These names will then be forwarded to the national leadership, who will ultimately select one person for each assembly. “Our objective is to ensure that the most competent and dedicated individuals are chosen for these leadership roles. This will enable the Regional Minister to form a strong team that can drive the development of the Volta Region,” Mr. Kudoto said.

He congratulated all aspirants for their willingness to serve their respective Assemblies, acknowledging their vision and commitment to the region’s development. Ms. Delfia Fafa Agbai, the NDC Regional Women’s Organizer and former District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu, expressed satisfaction with the number of women who applied for the positions.

She urged President John Dramani Mahama and his government to consider appointing more women to leadership roles at the district level. “I am pleased to see more women stepping forward for leadership roles. I appeal to the President and Vice President to give greater consideration to female aspirants in the final appointments,” she stated.

The week-long vetting process, which began on Tuesday, January 21, with aspirants from Hohoe, Kpando, and Afadzato South, concluded successfully with candidates from Anlo, Keta, and Akatsi North. With the vetting now complete, the people of the Volta Region eagerly anticipate the final selection of MMDCEs who would spearhead development and governance at the local level.
