Mr Joseph Nelson, the Western Regional Minister, has urged Muslims to preserve the spiritual benefits of fasting during Ramadan and continue to promote peaceful coexistence, and foster a harmonious and inclusive community for all.

He was speaking at the Sekondi Methodist Park, where he joined the Muslim community to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan.  Mr Nelson said: “May the blessings of Ramadan remain with us throughout the year, and let us hold sacred the lessons of fasting and continue to live in harmony with one another, regardless of our faiths.

“By doing so, we will build a more united and peaceful nation.” He also commended the Muslim community for their continuous efforts in preserving the peace and stability of the country. Mr Armah Blay Nyameke, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, congratulated the Muslims in the constituency for the successful end to the fasting period, saying; “We understand the significance and purpose behind it.”

He continued: “We fast to strengthen our bond, promote peace, and ultimately, to protect and serve the best interests of our community here in Sekondi, so thank you again for your dedication and commitment.”  Meanwhile, he announced that plans were underway to commission the Islamic clinic in Sekondi Zongo, as he promised during the election 2024 campaign period.

The MP said: “I am committed to improving the health infrastructure and quality healthcare in our constituency. “As promised during my campaign, we have made significant progress in developing the Sekondi health centre, which is nearing completion.” Mr Nyameke said work was in progress to add another maternity block to serve the women in the Sekondi Zongo community to ensure they had access to quality healthcare services.

“I am hopeful that these projects will be completed by the end of this year, and eager to see the positive impact they will have on our community,” he stated. Sheik Suleiman Ahmed Mozu, Western Regional Chief Imam, said a word of prayer for the Regional Minister and the country in general. Eid al-Fitr is observed by Muslims around the world to express gratitude to Allah for the blessings of Ramadan and demonstrate generosity by giving to the needy in society.

It is a time for families and communities to come together, strengthen bonds, and celebrate with feasts, gifts, and festivities to serve as a sense of accomplishment after a month of fasting and spiritual devotion.
