Beginning today, NIA will operate in 14 GRA offices for TIN replacement

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it will from today, Thursday, April 1, 2021, operate 14 registration offices at the premises of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) nationwide.

This is in line with the government policy to replace the Tax Identification Number (TIN) with the Personal Identification Number (PIN) on the Ghana Card.

The Registrar-General’s Department (RGD) had earlier said effective April 1, all clients registering new companies would be required to provide both their National Identification Number and the Tax Identification Number for the process.

The NIA’s co-location strategy with the GRA will also afford Ghanaians aged 15 years and above who have not yet registered for the Ghana Card the opportunity to do so.

Ghanaians who have already registered for the Ghana Card are however not to present themselves at any of the offices for re-registration as doing so would amount to a criminal offence, and such offenders shall be liable for prosecution.

“Members of the public are entreated to cooperate with both officers of the NIA and GRA to ensure successful operations at all the 14 offices within the GRA premises”, the Authority advised in a statement.

The NIA assures registered Ghanaians yet to receive their cards that, the cards will be issued to them at the NIA offices in their Regional and District Capitals when the permanent offices are established effective June 1, 2021.

Other services to be rendered by the permanent NIA Regional and District offices include:

    1. Continuous registration of all citizens from age zero to infinity free of charge.
    2. Registration of all foreigners legally and permanently resident in Ghana at a fee.
    3. Replacement of lost or damaged cards at a fee.
    4.  Updating of personal records or data in the National Identification Register (NIR).

The Ghana card registration commenced in April 2019.

It was piloted in the Greater Accra Region and later rolled out in the other 15 regions.

The exercise was suspended during the initial stages of the COVID-19 pandemic but resumed after the restrictions were eased.

Some Ghanaians have complained about their inability to access the card several months after the mass registration exercise ended.
