Sixteen-year-old Gwen Klu is set to represent Ghana at the Billie Jean King Cup, which will take place next week in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Telford-born tennis player, who lives in Hadley, described the opportunity as an honour and said she hopes to make a strong impression to earn more opportunities with the national team in the future.
Klu’s journey in tennis began when a coach introduced the sport at her primary school, giving pupils the chance to train at the Telford Tennis Centre.
She has since spent more than three years training at the Ellesmere Tennis Academy and has regularly represented Shropshire in county competitions.

Eligible to play for the United Kingdom, France and Ghana, Klu chose to represent Ghana after attracting the attention of the Ghanaian tennis authorities through her strong performances and International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior world ranking.
Her eligibility stems from her British birth, her French mother and her father, a former Ghanaian volleyball player.
Explaining her decision, Klu said Ghana was the first country to offer her the opportunity to compete internationally, and she was pleased to accept the invitation.
