Deputy minister-designate for education, Gifty Twum Ampofo, has reportedly given an apology to the minority congress in parliament over an argument she had with the Tamale North legislator, Alhassan Suhuyini.
Her name was removed from the list of Deputy Ministers approved by parliament last week following disagreements between Joseph Owusu, Chairman of the committee, and his vice Haruna Iddrisu as the minority insisted the nominee’s approval be rejected over her conduct.
Mrs. Ampofo, during her vetting, was accused by Suhuyini of being involved in bribery, a situation which did not go down well with the nominee. She however verbally assaulted him, later, angering the minority.
According to TV3’s parliamentary correspondent, Komla Klutse, the majority chief whip, Frank Dompreh, and his minority counterpart Muntaka Mubarak, arranged for Mrs. Gifty Ampofo to appear before the congress, where she rendered the apology and also pledged to be of good conduct if approved.
However, the decision of the appointment committee going forward remains uncertain.
