Tuesday, October 15, 2024, marks the 25th anniversary of the Aviation Social Centre Limited, a subsidiary of the Ghana Airports Company Ltd (GACL).

The Centre, established with a mission to promote healthy lifestyles through fitness and recreation, aspires to be considered the preferred provider of international-standard fitness and recreational services in Accra and its environs.

Mrs Abigail Sappor, General Manager of the Centre, said Management considered the Silver Jubilee a momentous occasion, adding that it would thus use it to further its mission.

Activities earmarked for the anniversary include discounts on membership registration and subscriptions, free Aerobics Marathon, fun games competition among our corporate clients and a barbecue night for clients.

The theme for the celebration is: “Total Quality Life; 25 Years of Fitness, Wellness and Recreation.”

Mrs Sappor said: “I am happy to say that membership has grown significantly from a total of 67 in 1999 to  400 regular paid-up and attending members per month currently.”

Over the years, the Aviation Social Centre has crafted various fitness programmes for corporate institutions and groups as part of their team-building exercises or family days, which is termed ‘Family Fun Days’.

Mrs Sappor said: “This Centre is regarded as a one-stop multifunctional venue that can be set up for corporate and private entertainment and social events such as product launches, corporate end-of-year functions, fashion shows, dinner dances, private parties, weddings and receptions, and funeral receptions, and we will use the anniversary to showcase our offerings.”

As a responsible corporate citizen, the Centre holds quarterly aerobic marathon sessions to promote healthy living at no cost to members of the public.

The General Manager indicated that the Centre was currently partnering Total House clinic to run free breast cancer screening for our members.

“We also support the annual Seniors’ Day Out programme, which celebrates active ageing,” she added.

In the 25 years of the Centre, the General Manager said it had received numerous recognition for its contribution to society in terms of fitness, wellness, and recreation.

This include the Premier Brand Award for Fitness and Recreation in 2014, Heads of States Award for best venue for Youth Sports and Development in 2015 and the Silver Award in Wellbeing, Fitness and Recreation at the 15th Ghana Premier Business and Finance Excellence Awards in 2022.

“In 2023, we won the Most Outstanding Health and Wellness Facility and Brand of the Year at the Ghana Health Industry Summit Awards,” she added.
