Mr Kofi Yeboah, General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has made a donation to the Accra Rehabilitation Centre, as part of his “Tenable and Turntable” initiative.

He called on corporate organisations and individuals to support the Centre when he presented items, including a freezer, clothes and sanitary pads to trainees at the facility, on Thursday.

Mr Yeboah pointed to the lack of essential items for the upkeep and training at the ARC, a national institution that provides vocational training for persons with disabilities (PWDs) to enable to them make a living.

He said he was moved to support the Centre after learning about the challenges of the ARC, while undertaking field work as part of his Master of Laws (LLM) (Human Rights Law and Practice) programme at the University of Ghana.

The donation, he added, formed part of his humanitarian service to the underprivileged in society.

“Today also marked my birthday so I deemed it appropriate to come and celebrate this special day with you. I mobilised these items from friends to come and support you,” he explained.

Mr Yeboah, who is also a communications lecturer at Wisconsin International University College, Ghana, urged the public to support the ARC with food items, household and personal effects.

He said ARC also needed facilities for training PWDs in information and communication technology (ICT) and hairdressing.

“Attending to these critical needs of the trainees would help them to assert their economic rights in respect of getting employment after their training,” he noted.

Mr Seth Dzidzornu, Centre Manager of the ARC, commended Mr Yeboah and his friends for their “selflessness and kindness.”

“After Kofi came to learn at the centre, he promised that he would be back, and today, he is here, not alone but with his friends and gifts.

“I know that this is just ‘touches’; there are bigger and greater ones coming,” he said, expressing optimism about continued support for the centre.

Ms Nina Okorafor, Assistant Centre Manager in-charge of Academic Affairs, described the donation as a “show of love.”

“…With our hearts filled with love, we receive them. We will use these items to the glory of God, and pledge to use them to improve and enhance the rehabilitation centre,” she added.
