The Government will soon institute a Microcredit Scheme to support people living in deprived Muslim communities.

It would also introduce Islamic banking instruments into the financial system in Ghana, based on the Bank of Ghana’s advice. President Mahama said this at the Muslims National Thanksgiving Service held at the National Mosque at Kanda, Accra. The event, chaired by the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, was to thank Allah for a peaceful December 7 general election.

The President advised those in leadership positions, both elected and those who continued to serve, to note that leadership was a sacred trust, and it came with enormous responsibility. “This moment of thanksgiving is also a moment for reflection. We pray that Allah grants all of us wisdom, humility and compassion to govern in a manner that prioritizes the welfare of our people”

Quoting from Surah Al-Imran, Chapter 3:159, the President said: “It is by Allah’s mercy that you are gentle to them. And had you been rough and hard-hearted, they would certainly have dispersed from around you. So, pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in all matters.” The verse underscores the importance of servant leadership, and that people were in leadership to serve the people, and to serve the people, one needed to be humble and inclusive, he said.

“We, therefore, urge our leaders to listen to the voices of the people, to build bridges across divides, and to lead with justice and fairness.” “Today as we give thanks, let us also renew our commitment to continuous prayer for our nation. Let us pray for peace in our homes, prosperity in our endeavors, and harmony among our people.”

Vice President Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the NDC national Champerson, and Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the party, were among the leading party bigwigs that attended the event.
