Match week 17 of the 2024-25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) saw action at all nine league centers, with some intriguing results.
Kumasi Asante Kotoko were the major victors on matchday 17, defeating debutants Vision FC 4-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. New recruit Kwame Poku, scored twice, while Peter Amidu and Saaka Dauda each scored once to help the Porcupine Warriors to a decisive victory.
With the win, Kotoko moved up to third place in the league table with 31 points, two points behind league leaders Bibiani Gold Stars. Accra Hearts of Oak maintained their four-game unbeaten streak by drawing 0-0 with FC Samartex 1996 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena. The Phobians stay fifth on the league table with 29 points while FC Samartex move up to eighth on the league table.
Hearts of Lions suffered their first home loss after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nations FC at the Kpando Stadium. Bi Boris Djagone’s second-half strike was enough to give Nations FC all three points, who moved second on the league table with 32 points. Legon Cities ended their five-game losing streak after beating Dreams 3-0 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
Three second-half goals from Fredrick Akatuk, Frank Akoto, and Raymond Agyemang were enough to give the “Royals” all three points to lift them off the bottom of the league. Accra Lions, after parting ways with Ibrahim Tanko earlier in the week, were hoping for a good result against Bibiani Gold Stars at the WAFA Park. But it turned out to be a devastating outing for Accra Lions as they were hammered 3-0 by Bibiani Gold Stars, who went top of the league.
