The International Facility Management Association (IFMA) Ghana Chapter has launched a Student Chapter at the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SDD-UBIDS) in Wa.

This is to bridge the gap between academia and industry. Facility Management is a profession that played a crucial role in optimizing the performance and functionality of buildings, spaces, and infrastructure. The launch, which brought students, faculty, and industry leaders together, was filled with enthusiasm, underscoring the potential of the collaboration to shape the future of Facility Management in Ghana.

Mr. Sampson Opare-Agyemang, the President of IFMA Ghana, highlighted the pivotal role of facility management in modern society. “Today, with the launch of this Student Chapter, we are one step closer to creating a thriving community of future professionals right here in Wa,” he said. “Facility Management is about ensuring the smooth, efficient operation of the spaces where people live, work, and interact.”

Mr. Opare-Agyemang emphasized the increasing importance of the profession in addressing global challenges. “From sustainability and safety to ensuring the well-being of all users, Facility Management is vital to the success of organizations and communities alike.”

“The establishment of the IFMA Ghana Student Chapter at SDD-UBIDS offers a fantastic opportunity to bring this profession to the forefront of the university experience, providing students with the resources, knowledge, and network to develop their skills in Facility Management”. Professor Elvis Attakora Amaniapong, Patron of the Student Chapter, lauded the initiative as it had the potential to transform the professional journeys of students.

“This Student Chapter is more than an academic milestone, it’s a gateway to real-world opportunities,” Prof Amaniapong said. “Facility Management is a dynamic profession that demands innovation, resilience, and deep commitment to excellence.” He said through the platform, students would not only gain industry insights but also develop leadership skills that would set them apart.

The students at SDD-UBIDS were equally enthusiastic about the ground-breaking initiative. They expressed happiness for the opportunity to learn from the professionals and get the necessary exposure. The launch featured interactive sessions, showcasing the latest trends in Facility Management and the professionals ‘role in addressing challenges like urbanization and environmental sustainability.

The IFMA Ghana Chapter has pledged ongoing support to the Student Chapter through mentorship, internships, and networking opportunities. With the launch, the foundation has been laid for a generation of professionals equipped to making a lasting impact on Ghana’s built environment and beyond.
