The Anlo Dukor Council, has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament to investigate and identify the Members of Parliament (MPs) who allegedly made defamatory remarks about Dr Zenator Agyemang-Rawlings, MP for Klottey Korley Constituency.

The said remarks was made during the parliamentary approval session of Ministers on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. In a letter dated February 5, 2025, made available to Ghana News Agency and addressed to the Speaker, Rt Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin,  Togbi Agbesi Awusu III, Awadada of Anlo Dukor, on behalf of Togbi Sri III, Awoamefia of Anlo State, expressed worry over the remarks purportedly made against Dr Agyeman-Rawlings.

The comments, reportedly stating that “Shut up, you daughter of a murderer,” are said to have been made during heated parliamentary proceedings when the approval of Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa was going on.

The petition highlighted the intense public reaction to the incident, as Ghanaians and international observers followed the proceedings via television and radio. The derogatory statement, targeting Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, eldest daughter of the late former President, Jerry John Rawlings, a revered son of Anlo land, was described as both defamatory and obscene.

According to the letter, preliminary information pointed to two MPs, Mr Abu Jinapor, MP of the Damongo Constituency and Nana Kwame, Asafo-Adjei MP of the Bosome Freho Constituency, as possible authors of the remarks, both however, have denied any involvement. The Anlo Dukor Council stressed the gravity of the situation, stating that the insult to Dr Agyeman-Rawlings was an affront to the dignity of Anlo land and the entire Volta region and its people.

Togbi Agbesi Awusu III underscored the Council’s commitment to ensuring the truth was uncovered and requested the Speaker’s assistance in identifying the individual responsible.

The Council called for the matter to be resolved by February 10, 2025, and emphasized the need for accountability and decorum within Parliament. Copies of the petition were sent to Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, Mr. Samuel Abu Jinapor, Nana Kwame Asafo-Adjei, and all press houses.
