Mr Mustapha Omar Copson, the Bono Regional Director of the National Youth Employment Agency (GEA), says President John Dramani Mahama has prioritised youth empowerment and development and assured artisanal workers of support under the Agency programmes.

He said empowering artisanal workers would enable them to expand their economic activities and create numerous job opportunities for the youth to contribute to nation building.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Copson said creating more jobs for the youth would widen the nation’s tax net and thereby position Ghana to generate the required revenue needed for development.

“Just imagine that if we are able to empower masons, carpenters, wielders, hairdressers and dressmakers, they will be able to expand their scope of operations and business and thereby absorb more of the unemployed youth and give them decent jobs”, he stated.

Mr Copson indicated that the political appointments given to many of the youth by President Mahama was an indication that the government was committed and ready to build the potential of the youth. “So we are also linking up with some agencies abroad, which are also ready to tackle unemployment rates in Africa.

In fact the feedback looks encouraging and very soon many of the unemployed youth will access job opportunities to build their potential and thereby contribute meaningfully to accelerated national development”, he assured.

Mr Copson said President Mahama’s administration believed in, and cherished all inclusive administration, saying “reset and job creation agenda are devoid of partisan considerations”.

He promised to ensure that the Agency’s job opportunity and skills development modules benefited all the deserving youth in the region, irrespective of their political orientation.
