To enhance security and combat crime in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality and its surrounding communities, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has donated a Toyota Hilux pickup to the Tarkwa District Police Command.

The Toyota Hilux pickup valued at GH¢813, 168.00 comes with a one-year comprehensive insurance policy.  Handing over the keys of the vehicle to the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nana Bismark Agyepong, the Western Central Regional Police Command, Second in Command, Mr Abraham Osei Badu, the Acting Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, said AngloGold Ashanti aimed to harness the power of mining to empower people and advance societies.

He said they recognized that safety was a fundamental pillar for progress and that a secured environment was essential for businesses, families and every community member.  Mr Badu stated that AngloGold Ashanti had indeed responded positively to the request of the Tarkwa Police Command with a generous donation of a Toyota Hilux pickup, adding, this vehicle would undoubtedly enhance the police command’s operations and contribute to maintaining law and order in the municipality.

“We are confident that this donation would provide the Tarkwa District Police Command’s ability to respond swiftly to incidents, patrol more efficiently, and ultimately serve the community with greater effectiveness “the acting managing director said. According to him, the Mine had also constructed and handed over a fully equipped gym valued at GH¢553,100 for police personnel at the District and Regional Command to boost their physical fitness and efficiently carry out their duties.

He thanked the Ghana Police Service for the partnership, reaffirming AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mines commitment of being a responsible corporate citizen.  Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nana Bismark Agyepong, the Western Central Regional Police Command, Second in Command, noted that “Although I am new to the district, l am aware of the substantial support you have given to the Ghana Police Service”.

“We faced mobility challenges due to the districts vast size and poor roads. Thankfully, you have provided us with a new Toyota Hilux to help us better serve the community,” ACP Agyepong added. He cited that with the vehicle, they would be able to prevent crime more effectively and responded quickly to emergencies within this jurisdiction.

ACP Agyepong acknowledged the Mines charitable contribution with gratitude, stressing that the vehicle would be used by the Tarkwa District patrols to increase visibility, and accessibility, and to facilitate effective policing within the Tarkwa Nsuaem area.
