Rev. Kweku Addo, Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, plans to collaborate with Alpha Beta School, Dansoman, to advance Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) education in the district.

He said that the partnership was essential for improving student performance, which he described as “not encouraging.”

Speaking during the STEAM Fair exhibition organized by the school on Thursday, Rev. Addo mentioned that he had met with the Education Directorates in the district, and they had agreed on the need to enhance science and technology education.

“So, if an institution by itself is able to support sixty, then the community should be able to help them, and not reinvent the wheels,” he said.

The fair showcased various science, environmental, technology, and art projects as part of the school’s STEM35 Legacy Project.

Rev. Addo also noted that the school already had the facilities to conduct STEAM activities from basic to junior high levels, including coding, robotics, renewable energy, environmental conservation, engineering prototypes, and artistic innovations.

He commended the school for offering free practical lessons to some public schools lacking such facilities and encouraged the school to continue their efforts.

Dr. Naomi Adjepong, School Director, elaborated on the STEAM35 Legacy Project, a five-year initiative launched in 2023 aimed at establishing a STEM Centre of Excellence to impact and inspire 3,500 young people in Dansoman.

She noted that 60 students from Alpha Beta and local public schools have benefited from the project this year, while 100 girls from public schools participated in the STEM Champions Programme.

Dr. Adjepong reaffirmed Alpha Beta’s commitment to promoting innovative learning and called for additional support to improve the school’s infrastructure.
