A grant of 11,000 US dollars has been secured for construction of a nurses’ quarters for the Adaklu Ahunda Boso Health Centre in the Adaklu district.
The grant was secured from the USAID Special Assistance Small Grant Programme. Mr. Samuel Yao Atidzah, Executive Director of GOSANET Foundation, a health NGO operating in the Volta Region disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency in Ho on Monday.
He stated that the grant was made possible through the collaborative effort of his Foundation, Adaklu District Health Management Team and the Adaklu Ahunda Boso community. The Executive Director continued that the money would be used to buy materials for the project and the community would provide labour adding that the community also has a large quantity of blocks.
He stated that the project which he termed a self-help one was expected to be completed in November, this year. He said the project when completed would not only provide a decent accommodation for the health workers but also strengthen healthcare services delivery in the community, improve retention of skilled health professionals in rural areas and enhance access to quality health care for families in and around the community.
Mr. Atidzah intimated that a lot could be achieved if communities, local leaders and development partners would come together for a shared purpose. He stated that GOSANET Foundation since its establishment had been working to promote community health, promote social development and empower vulnerable populations particularly in Adaklu and Volta region as a whole.
Mr. Atidzah on behalf of the community, Adaklu District Health Directorate and GOSANET Foundation, expressed his appreciation to USAID for their generous support through the Special Assistance Small Grant Programme. “Their contribution will go a long way in advancing healthcare delivery and community-wellbeing in the district,” he noted.
