Residents of Amasaman have expressed deep frustration over the deteriorating road conditions in the area despite ongoing construction works on the Amasaman–Accra highway, a critical route linking Kumasi and Accra.

The road, riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces, has become a nightmare for motorists and pedestrians, causing frequent vehicle damage and posing serious safety risks.

Madam Afriyie, a local trader, lamented the impact of the situation on livelihoods. “The road is so bad that it’s damaging vehicles and our goods. We’re losing money and time because of constant breakdowns and traffic jams,” she said.

Residents say that while construction is ongoing, it has introduced new challenges, including flooding during rains, dust pollution, and relocation of transport routes and market spaces, disrupting daily activities and worsening health conditions.

Another resident described the highway as a “death trap”, citing frequent accidents and confusion caused by sudden changes in traffic direction. “We’re calling on authorities to prioritize our safety and well-being,” he urged.

The Ga West Municipal Assembly has acknowledged the concerns and assured residents of efforts to address them. However, community members remain skeptical, recalling unfulfilled promises made in 2022 when they protested the same issue.

Residents are therefore appealing to the government and relevant agencies to speed up the construction, ensure proper safety measures, and minimize disruptions to business and community life.
