The President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has broken ground for the construction of a €5.6 million Centre of Excellence for Green Technology at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).

The initiative, part of Ghana’s broader Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) transformation agenda, is designed to serve as a hub for innovation, research, and hands-on training in renewable energy and sustainable technologies.

President Steinmeier noted that the project underscores the commitment of both Germany and Ghana to advancing technical education and promoting environmentally friendly development.

The Ghanaian government, he added, is focused on implementing a comprehensive TVET policy and establishing a dedicated TVET Fund to strengthen technical and vocational institutions across the country.

The official programme began on Monday with President Steinmeier inspecting a full military Guard of Honour at the Jubilee House Forecourt. He later held a closed-door meeting with President John Dramani Mahama, after which the two leaders led their delegations in bilateral discussions at the Credentials Room.
