Ghana and Denmark have entered into a new partnership to preserve and promote cultural heritage sites in Osu, Accra, reinforcing the longstanding historical relationship between the two countries.

The collaboration, which begins with a GH¢1.7 million project, brings together the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, the University of Ghana and the National Museum of Denmark.

Under the initiative, the partners will document historical sites, digitise cultural records and install heritage markers to enhance public knowledge and appreciation of Osu’s rich historical significance.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the project is intended to preserve cultural heritage, deepen understanding of the shared history between Ghana and Denmark, and ensure that important historical sites are protected for future generations.

The initiative is also expected to contribute to long-term plans to establish a museum and memorial at Osu Castle, one of Ghana’s most historically significant landmarks.

Officials believe the partnership will strengthen the preservation of historical records and heritage sites while creating new opportunities for education, research and cultural tourism. It is also expected to foster greater public appreciation of the historical links between Ghana and Denmark.

The project forms part of broader efforts to safeguard Ghana’s cultural heritage and promote historical education as a means of advancing dialogue, remembrance and national identity.
