Rev. Dr. Hubert Hounkpatin, the Director of Health Service, Ada East District Directorate, has disclosed that one of the major challenges confronting the district is the lack of adequate staff to manage the various health facilities in the area.

He disclosed this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), noting that most of the nurses that were posted to the district did not turn up with the excuse that the cost of living in Ada was higher than that of Accra.

Rev. Dr. Hounkpatin said most of them singled out the cost of accommodation and transportation as the main hurdles, an issue he thought needed serious local stakeholders’ engagement to find a lasting solution. He said that the situation had put a lot of stress on the existing few staff at the health facilities, which could compromise their service delivery.

The Ada District Health Director revealed that the most unfortunate issue was that even the Ada indigenes, who have completed their training and had their clinicals (practicals) in the district opted not to return to the area even when posted there. He indicated that other challenges facing the health facilities in the area had to do with a lack of proper infrastructure and therefore appealed to indigenous people and well-meaning persons to assist in changing the images of the health facilities.
