President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in five newly appointed ambassadors to represent Ghana abroad, urging them to prioritise economic diplomacy and actively promote the country’s economic interests on the global stage.
The envoys will serve in Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Mali, Cuba, Situ and Malta. At the swearing-in ceremony held on February 9, President Mahama emphasised the need for Ghana’s diplomatic missions to move beyond ceremonial roles and deliver tangible economic outcomes.
According to the President, the effectiveness of Ghana’s diplomacy will be measured by its impact on job creation, economic growth, investment inflows and national development. He charged the ambassadors to urgently attract strategic foreign investments, expand non-traditional exports, promote tourism, facilitate innovation and technology transfer, and enhance Ghana’s competitiveness in international markets.
President Mahama also highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral relations in ways that directly support Ghana’s development priorities. He noted that every partnership forged and market opened must contribute meaningfully to the country’s broader national agenda.
He further reminded the ambassadors that the government’s reset agenda is anchored on integrity, efficiency, accountability and results-oriented governance. As heads of mission, he said, they are expected to reflect this vision by adopting a more proactive, solution-driven approach to diplomacy.
President Mahama stressed that mission strategies must be closely aligned with Ghana’s national development goals to ensure impactful representation abroad.
