The Central Regional Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly killing his 27-year-old wife at Assin Koforidua on Tuesday, August 31.
According to a police complaint, the victim ran out of their home screaming for help after her husband was attacked with a cutlass and later chopped to death.
Police arrived at the scene after a report was made.
“The only tenant, on seeing the situation run out and shouted for help. Neighbours later came in and found Kwabena having butchered his wife to death for no apparent reason.”
“Police proceeded to Assin Koforidua and met 27-year-old Abena, with deep cutlass wounds on her head, back and left hand, in a pool of blood dead,” the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command, Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie, said.
The suspect is reported to have attempted suicide by slitting his throat but failed.
“Suspect Kwabena, aged 45 years, was also met with a deep cut on his neck with bloodstains on his body lying down helpless,” Inspector Ettie said.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at the St. Francis Xavier hospital at Assin Fosu under armed guard.
The two were married with two kids.
This follows a similar incident at Gbetsile Soldier Line in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality of the Greater Accra Region where a woman was allegedly mutilated and hacked to death by her husband.
The husband in this case also tried and succeeded in his suicide attempt by hanging himself.
These kinds of killings have seen an increase in recent times in the country.
