Ghana’s rising global star MOLIY (Moliy Ama Montgomery) is kicking off 2026 with major wins and recognition, solidifying her place as one of Africa’s most exciting new voices in Afro-pop and fusion music.
Just days into the new year, Spotify named MOLIY the EQUAL Africa Artist of the Month for January 2026 a prestigious honor that celebrates female artists amplifying women’s voices across the continent. She also graces the cover of the EQUAL Global playlist, highlighting her hypnotic blend of Afro-pop, Afro-fusion, dancehall, and emotive storytelling.
Born and raised in Accra, Ghana, MOLIY draws inspiration from local legends like Daddy Lumba, Rex Omar, R2Bees, and 4×4, as well as bold female trailblazers such as Ebony, Eazzy, Itz Tiffany, and Sister Deborah. Her sound is playful yet powerful where emotion meets movement and it’s resonating worldwide.
Her breakout moment came in December 2024 with the viral hit “Shake It To The Max (FLY)”, which exploded on TikTok and gained even more momentum through remixes featuring Skillibeng and Shenseea. The track turned into an international anthem, helping MOLIY top Spotify’s list of most-exported Ghanaian artists in the 2025 Wrapped.
Here are some stunning recent shots of MOLIY capturing her vibrant energy and signature style:

On the awards front, MOLIY is making waves with two nominations at the 2026 MOBO Awards (celebrating 30 years of championing Black music and culture):

    • Best African Music Act (alongside heavyweights like Wizkid, Davido, Ayra Starr, Tyla, Rema, Tiwa Savage, and more)
    • Best International Act (facing global stars like Cardi B, Kehlani, Vybz Kartel, and fellow African queens Ayra Starr and Tyla)

Fans on X are buzzing many are rooting for her in both categories, with some calling her a strong contender thanks to her massive UK traction and growing streams (over 13 million monthly Spotify listeners!). Public voting is open, and the ceremony takes place in Manchester on March 26.

MOLIY’s journey is a powerful reminder of the rise of African women in global music trusting their voices, embracing individuality, and breaking boundaries. As she said about the EQUAL honor: “Being a woman in this industry has taught me to trust my voice even when the room is loud. There’s real power in women supporting women.”Ghana and Africa to the world MOLIY is just getting started. Keep streaming, voting, and watching this star soar.
