Bad Timing! Ahwoi’s book will create problems for NDC’s 2020 campaign – Kweku Baako

Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako believes Prof. Kwamena Ahwoi’s book ”Working With Rawlings” will create serious problems for the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Prof. Ahwoi is said to have dropped a bombshell as his book gives detailed and revealing accounts about things that happened during and after the tenure of former President Jerry John Rawlings.

Professor Ahwoi served as Minister of Local Government and Rural Development from 1990 to 2001 and as Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1997 under NDC government during former President Jerry John Rawlings’ administration.

Due to his rich experiences, he is thought to be in a best position to write about his working relationship with the former President but his accounts have been subjected to intense scrutiny.

Certain individuals named in the book, not excluding former Minister of Communications and his Deputy, Dr. Edward Omane-Boamah and Felix Kwakye Fosu respectively, and said to have been recruited together with others to besmirch Mr. Rawlings’ reputation; have denied the allegations.

Other members of the NDC have also challenged the accuracy of facts in the book.

Speaking on Wednesday’s edition of ”Kokrokoo” on Peace FM, Kweku Baako questioned the timing of the release of the book, wondering why Prof. Ahwoi didn’t wait till a later time but decided to launch it when the NDC is in an electoral battle.

According to him, the book raises lots of questions about the opposition party and could likely affect the party’s campaign for victory in this year’s general elections.

“The timing of the release of this book relative to the NDC as a political machinery going for an election, questions arise . . . Coherence in terms of campaign, cohesion relative to the campaign, considering the timing; I’m wondering whether it’s positive or negative for the party . . . I realized that it is legitimate to ask timing and what is the effect of release of this book that sounds controversial even within NDC circles on their party campaign cohesion and coherence in terms of message and solidarity,” he said.

He further stressed that ” . . the things in this book will create a lot of problems within the NDC”.
