Award-winning R&B singer Chris Brown has been arrested in Manchester, England in connection with a violent incident that allegedly occurred over a year ago in London.
According to reports from multiple outlets including BBC, NY Post, and Page Six, the 36-year-old artist was taken into custody in the early hours of May 15, 2025, at The Lowry Hotel, where he was staying ahead of a performance on his “Breezy Bowl XX Tour.”
The arrest is tied to an alleged assault dating back to February 2023, when music producer Abe Diaw claimed Brown attacked him at Tape nightclub in Mayfair, London. According to the accusation, Brown allegedly smashed a Don Julio 1942 tequila bottle over Diaw’s head, before punching and kicking him, reportedly causing severe injuries and briefly knocking him unconscious.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that Brown was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) and remains in custody as investigations continue.
In October 2023, Diaw filed a $16 million civil lawsuit against Brown, alleging permanent damage and defamation, claiming the singer later spread false information about the incident to damage Diaw’s reputation.
The arrest now casts doubt on Brown’s ongoing tour, which was meant to celebrate his 20-year music career. It’s unclear whether upcoming shows will proceed as planned.
This is not the first time the artist has faced legal issues. Chris Brown’s past includes a felony assault conviction in 2009 involving Rihanna, and a 2017 restraining order obtained by ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
As of now, Brown’s legal team has not issued a public statement. Fans and critics alike are waiting to see how this latest incident will impact both his reputation and his music career.
