Damongo Senior High School in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region faces eminent shut down over food shortage. The shortage has been persistent since the month of May but gotten worse in the last two weeks.

The situation has been attributed to the failure by the free SHS secretariat and the national stock company to provide supplies to the school. This has compelled school authorities to rushing meals to students.

In the situation, it is understood that this has led to some students relocating from the boarding house and commuting from home to school for classes.

Th free SHS coordinator for Savannah region, Alidu Iddi tells 3FM that the issue is being addressed. He assures that the school will receive supplies today.

3FM reporter for the Savannah Region, Christopher giving a report about what is happening in the school said, “The Savannah regional minister has indicated that in the next two hours the school will be supplied with some food stuffs. “

He continued, “Earlier speaking to some school authorities, they indicated that there have been food shortage in the school since Monday and the school authorities have even informed the students about the situation and that if they don’t get supplies, they are likely to ask them to go back home.

“So even though they have also received information from the regional minister that they will be receiving some food items today, they cannot tell whether or not it will arrive earlier before they prepare food for supper or not but they are only cooking rice for the students and they even get only a ladle of the food prepared.”

Answering a question on how the students are reacting to this, Christopher said, “Basically the students have expressed disappointment in school authorities because according to them since Monday, they have been eating only rice and even when they go for their breakfast, they take the porridge without sugar which is a serious concern to them and asking the school authorities to let them go home till they get supplies”
