Mr Daniel Dagba, the longest-serving Akatsi South Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been confirmed by members of the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

Mr Dagba, a teacher by profession, received 32 votes in his favour with 7 no votes and 2 rejected out of the total of 41 votes, comprising 28 elected assembly members and 13 government appointees to secure the two-thirds majority to confirm him as MCE.

In a short address after his swearing-in, Mr Dagba indicated that he was filled with a profound sense of responsibility and an unwavering commitment to redefining public service delivery “which is anchored on dedication, integrity, and utmost diligence.” He expressed his gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the confidence reposed in him and to the assembly members for endorsing him.

He further assured the people of Akatsi South of bringing the needed development to the area. “Akatsi South is a vibrant community, rich in culture, blessed with industrious people, and strategically positioned for growth. I am also aware of the challenges that lie ahead, such as infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, job creation, and the overall socio-economic well-being of our people.” Mr Dagba also assured the people of Akatsi South of uniting all those who matter in the development agenda.

The confirmation also saw a total of 13 new government appointees sworn in before voting began. Earlier, Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, who attended the event, consoled some affected residents whose properties and personal belongings were destroyed in a rainstorm disaster that hit the area recently. He revealed that his outfit would ensure proper arrangements toward bringing some relief to those affected.

Mr Gunu, however, called for strict adherence to the raising of structures within the area, where he advised the various technocrats at the assembly to ensure all the building rules have been applied. He also emphasized that all the assembly members needed to confirm the President’s nominees at the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District assemblies to champion the work of government without any delay.

Mr Gunu also explained that the ruling government would work together with the various traditional authorities for a common purpose. Mr Dagba, in 2013, failed twice to secure the two-thirds majority to guarantee him to secure the position as DCE when he was nominated by the same President. However, members of the public are optimistic that the time had come for what they called ‘Action and a disciplinarian man’ to lead the affairs of the Municipality.

He is a talented professional from Asafotsi, a community within Akatsi. He holds a Master of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance from the University of Professional Studies in 2012 after graduating from the University of Ghana with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 2008 as well as having extensive experience in business development and education. Mr Dagba was also the former Head of the Business Department at Akatsi Senior High Tech School, a position he occupied for thirteen years, whilst holding other leadership roles within the NDC.

He is currently the longest-serving Constituency Secretary for Akatsi South, a position he held since 2010 Mr Dagba’s skills include excellent communication, analytical abilities, and strong interpersonal relations, complemented by a commitment to national development through professional accounting. He once served as a Government Appointee at the Akatsi South Municipal Assembly and chaired the Committee of Finance and Administration. Several dignitaries including past and newly confirmed MDCEs attended the confirmation exercise.
