The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quayson, has held discussions with the Deputy Chief Executive Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), Ms. Sonja Leighton-Kone, during her working visit to Ghana on Monday, December 8, 2025.

Ms. Leighton-Kone noted that 2025 marks a decade of UNOPS operations in Ghana and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the country. She highlighted ongoing collaboration in key areas such as climate-resilient infrastructure, health system improvement, sustainable procurement, and institutional capacity building.

She further announced that UNOPS is supporting Ghana in developing a roadmap for climate-resilient infrastructure, and providing essential medical and non-medical equipment to the Ghana Health Service. In addition, the organisation is advancing inclusive economic growth initiatives targeted at women-led, youth-led, and disability-owned MSMEs.

Ms. Leighton-Kone also expressed interest in expanding cooperation into new areas including digital transformation, climate finance mobilisation, and support for developing bankable infrastructure projects.

Deputy Minister Quayson commended UNOPS for its contributions, noting that the agency’s interventions align with Ghana’s development priorities. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining strong cooperation as both parties work toward shared national development goals.
