Former NEIP CEO Kofi Ofosu Nkansah Charged With Publication of False News

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, has been formally charged with the publication of false news and is expected to appear before court on Thursday, February 12, 2026, his lawyer has confirmed.

Speaking on Asempa FM, his legal counsel, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, disclosed that the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) informed him of the charge after taking his client into custody.

According to the lawyer, Mr Nkansah remains in detention and has not been granted bail.

“I have just left the BNI. They informed me formally that they will arraign him before the court tomorrow by God’s grace. Because of that, they are not granting him bail,” Mr Awuah said.

The charge arises from comments allegedly made by Mr Nkansah during a discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM, where he claimed that an individual had paid money to secure a government-funded scholarship to study abroad.

The interview later circulated widely across media platforms, generating significant public attention and debate.

Following the broadcast, President John Dramani Mahama directed the NIB to investigate the allegations of alleged impropriety in the award of overseas scholarships.

In a statement dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, the Presidency noted that the claims had generated considerable public interest and warranted investigation.

As part of the probe, NIB officials conducted a search at Mr Nkansah’s residence before inviting him to assist with enquiries. He was subsequently taken into custody and questioned by investigators.

Mr Awuah, who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, questioned the continued detention of his client following the filing of charges.

“He has been charged but is still in NIB custody, although he was supposed to be granted bail. How do you detain someone who has been charged with publication of false news?” he asked.

The National Investigations Bureau is yet to issue an official public statement on the matter.
