The inferno is reported to have started around 8:30 am on Monday on the last floor of the three-storey building.

Presently, about six fire tenders and a turntable ladder are currently being used by the personnel to quench the flames.

According to eye witnesses, when the fire started, they called on the fire service station that is situated a few meters away but they claimed “they do not have water” to inundate the flames. Thus, the official walked to the scene empty handed.

The fire then spread to the other floors, destroying properties as traders in the building fled for their lives and spectators looked on.

Reinforcement was deployed to the scene when the fire escalated.

He added that due to the combustibility of some of the goods that are in some shops, the fire reignites when all seems to be under control.

Despite the fact that no difficulties have been reported, traders who have lost goods worth millions of Ghana cedis are weeping for the loss of their properties or goods.

Meanwhile, some traders say that had they( fire service) come earlier to douse the flames, the fire would not have escalated, as they had started the struggle to quench the flames with their fire extinguishers.
