The Ga Mashie Development Agency (GAMADA) will hold its first high-level Stakeholders’ Roundtable Meeting  which is aimed at boosting community involvement in the management and operations of the James Town Fishing Harbour.

Organised under the theme “Inclusive Management of the James Town Fishing Harbour: Empowering Ga Mashie for a Sustainable Blue Economy,” the event will bring together government officials, traditional authorities, civil society groups, academics, private sector players, and key community representatives.

Among the notable attendees will be the Ga Mantse, His Royal Majesty King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II; the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Emelia Arthur; the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo; Members of Parliament; the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey; and officials from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

According to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), the dialogue will focus on several important issues: employment opportunities for Ga Mashie residents, allocation of market stalls to fishmongers displaced during the harbour’s construction, outsourcing of harbour services—such as security, cleaning, and sanitation—to local enterprises through GAMADA, and ensuring community representation on the Harbour Management Board.

The event will include traditional rites, goodwill messages, a keynote policy address from the Fisheries Minister, remarks from GPHA, the presentation of a Position Statement, a panel discussion on inclusive harbour management and job creation, and the adoption of key resolutions.

The AMA stated that the roundtable is part of broader efforts to promote inclusive governance and build a sustainable blue economy that supports the Ga Mashie community.
