Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced the successful evacuation of all Ghanaian embassy staff from Iran amid rising security concerns.

In a Facebook post on March 2, 2026, the Minister confirmed that the evacuation had been completed, with all diplomats reported safe and in good spirits. He also revealed that Ghana’s embassy in Iran has been closed indefinitely, stressing that the safety and welfare of Ghanaians remain the government’s top priority.

The move comes in response to escalating tensions following coordinated military strikes launched on February 28 by the United States and Israel against Iran. The strikes reportedly targeted military facilities, leadership compounds, and other strategic sites, significantly heightening regional instability.

The conflict has since triggered airspace closures, flight disruptions, and increased security alerts across the region, prompting several countries to reassess their diplomatic presence.

Although specific details of the evacuation were not disclosed, the temporary closure of Ghana’s embassy is expected to affect consular services, as authorities prioritise the protection of diplomatic staff.
