The Ghana–Jamaica Homecoming Festival was officially launched at the Labadi Beach Hotel, with a strong focus on youth empowerment and reconnecting Africa with its global diaspora. The launch on April 1 featured Grammy award-winning reggae artist Gramps Morgan and brought together leaders from the creative industry, tourism sector, and diplomatic community.

Key figures at the event included Bessa Simons and Rex Omar, Coordinator for the Black Star Experience at the Presidency.

Speaking at the launch, Morgan emphasized the festival’s role in reconnecting Africa with its diaspora while investing in the next generation. He described the festival as a bridge between past and future, celebrating shared heritage while equipping young people with skills and opportunities for success.

Morgan highlighted Ghana’s significance to the Caribbean and broader diaspora as a symbol of origin, identity, and home, while noting that the festival also serves as a platform for transformation, particularly for youth, entrepreneurs, and creatives. The initiative will prioritize empowerment through education, collaboration, and enterprise, offering structured dialogues, partnerships, and skill-building opportunities that connect participants to global networks.

Abdul Fatawu Alhassan underscored the enduring cultural and historical ties between Ghana and Jamaica, stressing the importance of preserving this heritage while using it to drive cultural exchange and co-creation among artists, creatives, and communities.

The festival, a collaboration between Broadway Entertainment and Dadason Entertainment, and implemented by Six Degrees Africa, is designed to deepen diaspora engagement and create economic, cultural, and tourism opportunities. Planned activities include cultural immersion experiences, business networking sessions, and creative showcases, attracting participants from Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond, positioning Ghana as a hub for diaspora connection and cultural diplomacy.
