Ghana and Norway have strengthened their bilateral ties by signing a Political Consultations Agreement on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York

The Agreement was signed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP), and Norway’s Minister for International Development, Hon. Åsmund Grøver Aukrust.

The discussions reaffirmed both countries’ commitment to broaden cooperation in critical areas, including oil and gas, trade facilitation, agribusiness, education, artificial intelligence, maritime security, the blue economy, and intelligence sharing.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional security challenges in the Sahel and West Africa. Ghana emphasised the urgency of revitalising the Accra Initiative and called on international partners to complement financial contributions with technical support, equipment, and broader multilateral engagement.

Norway, for its part, reaffirmed its continued support, particularly through research and training at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

The engagement concluded with both delegations pledging to provide joint global leadership as Co-Chairs of the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy.

This milestone agreement lays a strong foundation for a deeper, more strategic partnership between Ghana and Norway, anchored in shared values and a common vision for peace, prosperity, and sustainability.
