The Elections Committee of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has announced the opening of nominations for the Association’s 2025 National and Regional Executive Elections, scheduled to take place on Monday, June 30, 2025.

According to the Committee, the nomination period opens today, Friday, May 16, and will close on Friday, May 30, 2025.  The announcement marks a significant milestone in the Association’s democratic calendar. The statement was signed by Mr Peter Martey Agbeko, Chairman of the Elections Committee. The other members are Mr Kwaku Owusu-Peprah, Secretary, and Mrs Beatrice Asamani Savage, Member.

The positions up for election, each carrying a three-year term, include President, Vice President, General Secretary, Organising Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Affairs Officer at the national level. For the regional elections, members will contest the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Nomination forms will be accessible via a secure link after payment of the required fees into the Association’s account at the National Investment Bank Limited, Osu Branch. The Account Number is: 1112037799401

The fees stand at GH₵5,000 for the presidency, GH₵3,000 for other national office, while GH₵1,500 is for regional chairpersons, and GH₵1,000 for other regional positions. Applicants are required to submit completed forms accompanied by a recent bust-size photograph with a red background.

All nominated candidates will undergo a vetting process to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria, the Committee said. National candidates will be vetted in person at the Ghana International Press Centre from Tuesday, June 3 to Thursday, June 5, while regional candidates will be vetted virtually during the same period.

The results of the vetting will be released on Friday, June 6, 2025. The Committee said balloting for all position would take place on Monday, June 9, after which the official campaign period would commence and run until Saturday, June 28. The Voters Register would be published by Friday, May 30, and the official election calendar issued on Monday, May 19, it said.

The Committee urged all eligible members who possess the passion and competence to lead at both the national and regional levels to pick up nomination forms and contribute to building an ever  vibrant Association. “The Elections Committee is mandated to organise, conduct and supervise the GJA elections, with technical support from the Electoral Commission of Ghana. The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana will oversee the conduct of the elections on Monday, June 30, 2025,” it explained.

It stated that it was finalising all necessary arrangements to ensure a credible, free, and transparent electoral process. It also urged the cooperation of all stakeholders in upholding the democratic values of the GJA.
