The Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Agyei, has confirmed that GH¢809 million has so far been paid to the contractor working on the Pokuase–Nsawam Highway as of August 4, 2025.

His disclosure comes as contractors returned to the site to resume repair works on the major highway, bringing relief to commuters who have endured weeks of heavy gridlock.

Additionally, the development occurs just a few days before the expiration of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU)’s one-week deadline on Wednesday, August 20. If the government didn’t get the contractor back on site, the union had said it would stop working.

On Monday, August 18, in an interview with Peace FM, Mr. Agyei explained that the project’s financial obligations have been completely met by the government.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Sedem Afenyo, has welcomed the resumption of work, expressing optimism that construction will not stall again.
