The management and board of Kumasi Asante Kotoko will reveal the future of Head Coach Mariano Barreto in the coming days, this is according to CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah.

The Portuguese coach is now in Portugal and will travel in Ghana soon to begin pre-season preparations for the 2021/2022 season.

Barreto’s future at the club currently hangs in the balance following remarks he made about the club before his departure.

Speaking in an interview on Starr Fm, the Kotoko CEO said, “Management and the board are discussing whether the coach should stay or not,”

Prior to his departure, the former Black Stars Coach said Kotoko was just a big name and lacked facilities to be a modern club.

“I know Asante Kotoko fans won’t be happy with this but I must say it, Asante Kotoko is only a big name and not a not a big team because they lack so many things a big team should be having,” Baretto said on Nhyira FM.

“A big team should be having their own physiotherapy room, a strong youth team, philosophy, video room amongst other infrastructure and Kotoko lack all these.”

Kotoko finished second in last season’s Ghana Premier League and they will be looking to improve on their performance in the coming season, however, it is unclear if Barreto will still be in Charge of the club for the upcoming season.
