The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) will, on May 17, 2025, begin a maiden nationwide data collection for the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS).

The QLFS is a new survey that will provide regular data on employment, multidimensional poverty, and food insecurity in Ghana. The survey will cover 13,920 households from 1,160 enumeration areas, comprising 50.9 per cent urban and 49.1 per cent rural. The QLFS is being implemented by GSS with technical support from the International Labour Organisation.

Dr Faustina Frempong-Ainguah, the Deputy Government Statistician, speaking at the launch of the survey in Winneba in the Central Region, said the exercise would support evidence-based planning and monitoring for national development.

That, she stressed, was critical, considering recent shifts in work patterns under the 24-hour economy policy.  “The focus of this survey is not only on data collection but also on understanding how people live, work, survive, and plan. We are collecting information that will help government and partners make informed decisions,” she said.

Dr Frempong-Ainguah encouraged all selected households to take part, adding that the information would help shape the country’s programmes and resource distribution. She called on all, especially the media, local authorities, and community leaders, to support public awareness of the exercise.

Regular updates, she announced, would be provided through official GSS platforms and stakeholder briefings. Mr Francis Bright Mensah, Project Coordinator for the QLFS, asked the field officers to be diligent, adding that “the accuracy of the data depends on how the interviews are conducted.”

He said the results would support policy reviews related to employment, social protection, and economic inclusion and contribute to tracking progress on national and global development targets.  Mr Mensah appealed to selected households to cooperate with field officers and provide complete and truthful responses.
