The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued a public warning over a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating its Chief Executive, Julius Neequaye Kotey.

In a statement released on Monday, December 22, 2025, the Authority cautioned the public to disregard any social media profiles or private messages claiming to be from the DVLA boss and soliciting money, contracts, or personal information.

The DVLA stressed that Mr Kotey does not conduct official business, offer contracts, or request payments through personal social media accounts or private messaging platforms.

Members of the public have therefore been advised to ignore, delete, and report any friend requests or messages from such accounts, particularly those demanding financial assistance or sensitive personal details. The Authority encouraged victims and the general public to report the fake accounts directly to Facebook.

The statement further emphasised that only official DVLA communication channels should be trusted for information and transactions, adding that the Authority will not be liable for any dealings carried out through unauthorised platforms.

The DVLA disclosed that it is collaborating with relevant security agencies to identify and apprehend those behind the impersonation, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the public as cases of online fraud and cybercrime continue to rise.
