Rev. Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP), George Akuamuah-Boateng (rtd), Ho East Presbytery Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG) has reminded Christians that Jesus Christ has the answer for every challenge they were going through.
“Remember that your saviour is close to you in your challenges,” he noted.
Rev. CSP Akuamuah-Boateng gave the reminder at a thanksgiving service to round-off the 15th Synod of the Ho East Presbytery of the EPCG at Abutia Teti in the Ho West District of the Volta region.
The sermon on the theme: “Sheep and Shepherd” was taken from Acts 9:36 – 43, Revelation 7:9 – 17 and John 10:22 -30.
Rev. CSP Akuamuah-Boateng entreated them not to be dissolution and lost hope but focus their attention on Jesus Christ when they were faced with tribulations.
He called on leaders, especially Christian leaders to emulate the “servant leadership style” of Jesus Christ.
“A true leader is the one who sacrifices his or her comfort for his or her followers,” he noted.
The Synod Moderator urged them to be humble, obedient, selfless and have a listening ear for those who they led.
“Treat your followers as a Palestinian shepherd treats his sheep and not how a Fulani herdsman treats his cattle,” he advised.
Rev. CSP Akuamuah-Boateng turning to the Synod theme: “care for creation: task and mission of the Church,” said it was a divine duty for Christians to speak against the on-going destruction and degradation of the environment in the country.
“Let us boldly speak out wherever we find ourselves against the plundering of the environment by a few self-seeking individuals,” he stated.
He urged the Church to act as a powerful advocate for environmental protection and justice, adding “speaking against environmental degradation and advocating for policies that promote sustainability.”
The Synod Moderator said the Church had a unique role in promoting creation care by mobilizing her members and networks to address environmental issues and promote sustainable practices.
Mr Profer Francis Dusey, Ho West District Chief Executive urged the Church to continue working on her core mandate of producing law abiding citizens and the kingdom.
He lamented the destruction being caused to the Kalakpa Game Reserve, which he said was a potential tourist attraction by communities on its fringes and warned them to desist from such acts.
Mr Dusey said the destruction of the Reserve was the cause of the erratic rainfall pattern in the area.
Togbe Abutia Kodzo Gidi V, Paramount Chief and President of Abutia Traditional Area commended the Church for being development oriented and also for their cordial relationship with traditional authorities.
An appeal for funds in aid of a fence wall around the Presbytery Secretariat yielded over GH¢37,000.
